GUESTS OF HONOR

Mary Kay Andrews & Kristy Woodson Harvey

Mary Kay Andrews is the New York Times bestselling author of more than thirty novels, and the reason an entire generation packs a hardback in the beach bag. A former reporter for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, she has been called the Queen of the Summer Read for books like Savannah Blues, The High Tide Club and Sunset Beach — and this year's Road Trip, her first novel in two years, went straight onto the bestseller lists.

Kristy Woodson Harvey is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of thirteen novels, among them The Summer of Songbirds and the beloved Peachtree Bluff series, and her newest, Falling for Peachtree Bluff, brings the Murphy women home again. Several of her books are now in development for the screen.

The two are friends first, and co-founders of Friends & Fiction, the book community and weekly show that turned a pandemic-era idea into a standing conversation with readers across the country. Both write the Southern coast the way people who actually live on it do: salt, family, secrets, and a table that always has room for one more.

We are bringing them together for two days in the Lowcountry — two storytellers, one table, and the kind of conversation that only happens when the authors know each other this well.

TWO AUTHORS, ONE TABLE

Not a book signing.

Mary Kay and Kristy have shared a great many stages, livestreams and festival tents. What they rarely get to share is unhurried time with a small group of readers, far from a signing line.

This is that time. Rather than a talk and a queue, these two days will be devoted entirely to the two of them and to the Lowcountry they write about: an afternoon of coffee, lemonade and Whimsical Wicks presented with Lilly Pulitzer, a professionally photographed individual portrait with both authors, dinner at Linnette’s with Mary Kay and Kristy as our guests of honor, and a farewell breakfast the next morning.

It is a rare chance to hear, firsthand and between friends, how two of the South's most beloved storytellers find their characters, their coastlines and their endings — and to be at the table when they start trading stories of their own.

Two Days on the Kiawah River
with Mary Kay Andrews & Kristy Woodson Harvey

A private Lowcountry experience devoted to stories, friendship and conversation, with dinner at Linnette’s and a farewell breakfast the next morning.

JOHNS ISLAND, SC — NOVEMBER 19–20

at The Dunlin, Auberge Collection, on the Kiawah River just outside Charleston

This November, EDGE Escapes invites a very limited number of members to join Mary Kay Andrews and Kristy Woodson Harvey for two extraordinary private days in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

The experience begins Thursday afternoon at The Dunlin over coffee, fresh lemonade and cookies, hosted with Lilly Pulitzer.

From there, we settle in for a hands-on Whimsical Wicks session as Mary Kay and Kristy talk together about their newest novels, Road Trip and Falling for Peachtree Bluff, the coast that runs through all of their books, and the friendship behind Friends & Fiction.

Guests will enjoy a professionally photographed individual portrait with Mary Kay and Kristy.

The evening continues with an intimate family-style dinner at Linnette’s with Mary Kay and Kristy as our guests of honor, and we say goodbye the next morning over a farewell breakfast. With only 20 places available, this is designed to feel personal, gracious and entirely unlike a traditional book tour event.

20 seats. One table. Two days on the river.

The Shape of the Day

Johns Island, Thursday the nineteenth of November

2.00 - 4.00 PM - Coffee, lemonade & Whimsical Wicks with Lilly Pulitzer

We gather at The Dunlin over coffee, fresh lemonade and cookies, with Lilly Pulitzer as our host. Meet Mary Kay and Kristy, then settle in together for our Whimsical Wicks session — a hands-on, two-hour afternoon of making, laughing and talking about Road Trip, Falling for Peachtree Bluff, writing the Southern coast and the friendship that became Friends & Fiction.

Every guest leaves with a professionally photographed individual portrait taken with Mary Kay and Kristy.

6.00 PM - Dinner at Linnette’s

We move to dinner at Linnette’s — one table, one seating, no head of the room. Mary Kay and Kristy join us as our guests of honor for an unhurried evening of Lowcountry cooking, lively conversation and the kind of access that only happens at this scale.

Friday the twentieth of November

9.00 AM - Farewell breakfast at Linnette’s

One last morning together over a leisurely Lowcountry breakfast at Linnette’s before everyone heads home.

THE DUNLIN x LILLY PULITZER

A river, a table, and a little bit of print

The Dunlin, Auberge Collection, sits on the Kiawah River about twenty miles from Charleston, on a two-thousand-acre stretch of golden marsh and live oaks in the Sea Islands. Its seventy-four rooms and cottages were designed by Amanda Lindroth, and its kitchens are built around Lowcountry farms and the waters right outside the door.

Lilly Pulitzer, which began with a juice stand and a bright shift dress in Palm Beach, joins us as our partner for these two days — the same resort-to-dinner spirit that runs through every one of Mary Kay’s and Kristy’s coastal novels. A Lilly Pulitzer welcome over coffee and lemonade, a Whimsical Wicks afternoon, and Mary Kay and Kristy settling in to talk.

WHAT TO WEAR

Lowcountry Resort, After Dark

Think a favorite Lilly Pulitzer print or a pretty dress in happy color, relaxed tailoring and jewelry with personality — plus a wrap or light jacket for a November evening on the river. Polished enough for dinner, easy enough for an afternoon in the Lowcountry.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

You do not have to take
our word for any of this.

In July, People sent a writer to Nantucket for our evening with Elin Hilderbrand. She did not observe the dinner. She sat at it, and then she wrote about what that was like.

Forbes mentioned our Paris escape with Jo Piazza this summer. Veranda has written about what changes when you travel with the author instead of only reading her.
