An Enchanting Evening with Alice Hoffman

Alice Hoffman's new novel opens at Radcliffe in the 1950s, where two young women are recruited into the Lilith Society — a secret order of witches dating back to the colonies — while the country outside is busy hunting people down. It is a book about intelligence, suspicion, and what women do with power they were never meant to have.

On October 15, a small group of EDGE members spent the afternoon and evening with Alice, just a few streets from where she set it. It began with coffee till cocktails at Lovestruck Books & Cafe — conversation, one-on-one signings, and photographs — and ended at one long, candlelit table at Russell House Tavern, with Alice seated among our guests. Every guest went home with a signed copy of The Witches of Cambridge and a portrait with Alice.

The Witches of Cambridge arrived September 8th. Three days later, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman returned as the Owens sisters in Practical Magic 2, adapted from her novel The Book of Magic. She has been writing about New England witches for thirty years, and this autumn belonged to her.
